The Drouin West Cemetery was gazetted on the 17th December 1877
The original Trust members were:
Thomas Walton - a pioneer settler of the district along with his brother Walter
James Maginn – postmaster Brandy Creek 1876
Benjamin Doughty Smith – Shire rate collector, secretary & valuer from 1879
James Sutherland – his infant daughter May was buried in the cemetery in 1885
Andrew Blythe.
The first recorded burial in the 1788 receipt book is to Mr Francis Wall of Jindivick for the interment of his 6 month old daughter Jane Lavinia Wall. Research indicates that there were burials at Whiskey Creek Cemetery from 1877.
The discovery of gold at Walhalla and even small amounts at Rokeby & Crossover the opening up of land for farming and being on the Cobb & Co coach route to Sale made Whiskey Creek and Brandy Creek vibrant communities in the 1880’s. The arrival of the railway line to Drouin saw Drouin develop as the main town.

Cemetery trusts serve the community by providing cemetery services and maintaining public cemeteries. They are accountable to the Minister for Health. Cemetery trusts are required to comply with government policy. The legislative framework under which they operate is the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003.
Drouin West Cemetery Trust is a Class B trust made up of volunteers appointed by the Minister for Health.
